Despite being forced to temporarily close due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Astoria’s Tea and Milk is continuing to find ways to focus on the positive and give back to the community it calls home.
Fortunately, Tea and Milk has been able to keep much of its staff and is looking to reopen May 1st pending Governor Cuomo’s directions. If it is able to reopen then, Tea and Milk plans to take every precaution to ensure the health and safety of its customers and staff, including owner Matt Wong driving the staff to and from their homes, and offering curbside pick-up to minimize interactions with the counter.
For the time being, Wong is keeping his staff busy and staying positive by holding weekly wellness meetings on Zoom, and daily check-ins via Slack. “We are trying to keep morale up and stay busy, to provide some normalcy to affect flattening the curve” said Wong.
However, the staff at Tea and Milk has been using this time to get creative and give back: in the form of DIY bubble tea kits.
To date, Tea and Milk have shipped 400-500 DIY bubble tea kits throughout the country for those interested in learning how to craft the delicious beverage at home. Tea and Milk’s employees are providing how-to recordings on how to make the tea, as well as packaging and editing to ensure a simple process for purchasers of the DIY kits.
Owner/CEO Matt Wong recommends an extra step business owners can take to ensure the well-being of their employees during such a difficult time. “Go on Instagram and DM us to boost morale If we take the first step, to reach out, people are more inclined to let us know how they’re feeling. It helps the community”, shared Wong.
The team at Give Me Astoria would like to thank Matt Wong and the staff of Tea and Milk for their efforts to give back to the community at this time. If you would like to learn more about Tea and Milk, you may visit their DIY bubble tea website and official Instagram page.
