Avon Comes to Astoria

If you’ve never heard of Avon, the way it works is through individual sellers. The new location is a training center – meaning that they’ll be teaching sellers all about the products, and then these sellers will be the ones out there with products. Basically, its like a makeup store that isn’t exactly a store.

At the ribbon-cutting ceremony for a new Avon training center on Steinway Street were Central Astoria Local Development Coalition President George Stamatiades and Executive Director Marie Torniali, Niki Kokkinos representing Councilmember Costa Constantinides, Steinway Astoria Partnership President Kevin Foley, Avon Corporate Representative Michael Rodriguez and Avon District Sales Manager Mary Schroeder. To order products, you’d contact your local representative, and be able to sit down and order through them. It’s a great way to get a personalized approach, as well as recommendations for products that will work for you.
As a self-declared makeup addict, Avon was one of my first experiences with makeup – I remember paging through the magazines to find the perfect eyeliner or lipstick, and waiting excitedly for them to arrive in the mail. The prices for Avon aren’t very high – they’re accessible, quality products in the low to mid-end price range.
Another reason Avon seems like a great asset to the neighborhood is that it will supply more jobs – especially for women. It is a pretty simple process to sign on, and training will teach women all they need to know about selling the products.
