Elderly Woman Pronounced Dead After Mastiff Attack

A 75 year old woman was apparently attacked by her mastiff on Monday and pronounced dead, according to police.

At around 12:58AM officers from the 114th Precinct responded to a call in the area around 38th Avenue and 27th Street. When reaching the home they found a woman who was unconscious and unresponsive with trauma to her upper torso.

The woman, Louise Hermida, according to QNS, was taken to Cornell Hospital, there she was pronounced dead. Her son, a 39 year old, was also found at the house. He had suffered from trauma to his left leg and was also taken to Cornell Hospital. He is currently in stable condition. As of yet there is no information to the reason why the mastiff could have lashed out at the owner. The New York City Medical Examiner will be determining the cause of death and the investigation is ongoing.
