RFK-Triborough Bridge Will Be Cashless Starting June 15

Starting June 15th, the Robert F. Kennedy-Triborough Bridge will no longer be accepting bills, switching to E-ZPass tags instead.

The switch is set to cut up to 21 hours of driving time per year, according to the MTA. Along with decreasing the number of idle cars which will also be environmentally friendlier.

The E-ZPass system has already been implemented on the Henry Hudson Bridge, the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel, Queens Midtown Tunnel and the Rockaway bridges. The system uses sensors and cameras to detect your E-ZPass. Drivers that don’t have a pass will have a photo taken of their license and an invoice sent to their billing address.

The E-ZPass system is being rolled out on all MTA bridges and tunnels. The MTA hopes to have everything switched over by end of this year.

Verrazano-Narrows Bridge will switch in July with Throgs Neck Bridge in September and Bronx-Whitestone Bridge in October.
