What to do in Socrates Park this Weekend!
Saturday July 18th:
Why not check out the free kayaking and canoeing from 11am – 2pm, courtesy of Astoria Boaters and LIC Community Boathouse.
Departure will be from the Socrates Park Beach at Hallets Cove. Great for all ages, regardless of experience.
If you’re feeling in a relaxing and stretchy mood, then 9:30 – 10:30 AM & 11 AM – 12 PM, feel free to have a go at some Kripalu Yoga.
Bring a mat, a towel, and some comfortable clothes and be one with nature.
If the yoga and kayaking gave you a work out, why not fill up on some fresh and healthy fruits and veggies at the GrowNYC Greenmarket? Stock up on some meat, poultry and eggs while sipping on a fresh fruit juice.
From 8am – 4pm, the markets are booming with seasonal colors and scents from regions such as Black Dirt of Orange County, and Richmond Counties Mexican produce.
The perfect way to breeze through a summer Saturday.
– Have any compost you need to get rid of? BIG!Compost collects, 10am – 1pm, each Saturday.
If you’re feeling artistic, and the kids are restless, then head on over to the education area where you and the little ones can use your imaginations to conjure up some art from 12 – 3pm.
This Saturday, artist Ian Gerson teaches the class in his workshop titled, Whatever Floats Your Boat.
Sunday 19th July:
Had a big Saturday night? Well then, come burn off that cheat meal, or just focus the mind with Tai Chi, from 11am – 12pm. Taoist Tai Chi will relax your body and spirit, while your mind wonders to the sculptures of the park.
No experience required, just happy thoughts.
So check out Socrates Sculpture Park this weekend, and enjoy the summer Astoria!
