A Look Back At 2022
Another year in the books! And as we close our book on 2022 let us look back on what made Astoria awesome! The year of ’22 has seen a lot of change and renewal. COVID-19 is now in the rearview mirror. The economy is on a rollercoaster. NYC elected a new mayor. And of course, there were those NY Mets. Need we say more?
We saw many great new restaurants and fun local hot spots and community groups succeed this past year. And Give Me Astoria was there to bring it to you. Let’s look back on some of them.
We began our 2022 sojourn checking out the Best Martinis and the most popular Happy Hours in town. After all it’s 5 o’clock somewhere. One of the magazine’s best feature articles came in February with GMA’s Michelin Guide to Famous Foods.
Soon it was March and spring was in the air. And with the coming of springtime comes those springtime urges. And those urges lead to porn…pasta porn! GMA exposed the top spots for pasta which is perhaps by far (next to pizza) the most favorite type of food for Astorian’s.
Astoria has become one of the best places in New York City for food and entertainment and in which to live. It’s been that way for almost 200 years. A neighborhood this old certainly holds many secrets. GMA explored the legacy of Western Queens with a variety of stories about cool historical topics with the use of really cool never before seen archival photographs and little-known facts.
From the best tacos to the hottest brunches, GMA has your back. The reporting of our stories is handled with great care in order to bring the reader the most up to date information and each issue’s cover is graced with amazing artwork created from GMA’s very talented design team.
As we got into the summer months we helped Astoria cool down with the low down on where to find the best cold beers on tap and the hottest new restaurants for those dog days of summer.
We are now in the autumn of our third year in print as Astoria’s premier news source for everything trendy in this most awesome of neighborhoods. We know that the trendy lifestyle can come with a high price tag so that’s why we take pride in sometimes having no shame. In our September issue we offered ‘Cheap Thrills’, featuring numerous places in Astoria and Long Island City that offer cheap drinks and eats.
Issues of GMA are packed with valuable information which our readers can take with them on the go to explore their environs like the numerous parks which grace Astoria’s landscape.
As we reach the end of the year, we give thanks to our readers by acknowledging those who thankfully donate their time giving. Like the Greek American Homeowner’s Association who annually prepares more than 100 Turkey dinners for those in need. We also list places in Astoria that are open on Thanksgiving Day so that people who are not able to leave for the holidays can have a place to go.
We look forward to providing you with the same great, heck, even greater content in the year 2023!
