Publisher Letter: Giving Thanks

There probably hasn’t been a more important time in recent history for people to be thankful for what they have.

This year has certainly been fraught with much uncertainty and sadness. Tens of thousands of New Yorkers have been affected by the pandemic, and millions are still without work as the economy tries to recover from a several months shutdown.

As we enter November millions anticipate Thanksgiving, which was established by President Abraham Lincoln as an official holiday in 1863. It is that special time of year for friends and family to gather, give thanks, and celebrate over a traditional feast.

Here at Give Me Astoria we understand that the holidays bring much joy and also some sadness as a number of our fellow Astorians will not be able to travel home for the holidays.

In this issue, we invite you to read up on cool neighborhood ideas for Thanksgiving food and fun. There is of course exciting reviews of tasty restaurants and info on a really neat community initiative, #PayItForward started by local business owners.

Lastly, in this, our third issue, the staff of Give Me Astoria would like to give thanks to you, the amazing community that is Astoria. You are what makes us special and we will always be here to provide stories on the best of what Astoria and its residents have to offer.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!
