Don’t trash it, SMASH IT! Pumpkin Composting
Astoria Park Alliance is hosting a pumpkin smashing event and contest on November 1st from 11am-2pm.
Bring your ill-fated Jack-O-Lanterns and decorative pumpkins to Astoria park to turn them into compost for our tree canopy. Toss your pumpkin down the graveyard smashing range. The winner with the longest distance will receive a $50 gift card to Inside Astoria.
Once you’ve given your pumpkin a proper smash, help to spread the pumpkin compost throughout the park. It’s the perfect way to reduce waste, remain environmentally conscious, and give a second life to your October decor.
Astoria Park Alliance is excited and proud to bring the community together for a fun and competitive afternoon. They will be following all CDC guidelines to ensure the safety of everyone who visits. They ask that no one attend if they experience any of the symptoms (fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath, muscle or body aches, loss of taste or smell, or sore throat.) Masks are required. Social distancing is enforced.
You can join the APA Pumpkin Smash inside Astoria Park at Ditmars Blvd and 19th Street on Sunday, November 1st. Enter from 19th street and head to the Northeast lawn. Follow their Facebook page @astoriaparkalliance for event updates.
And even if you can’t attend APA’s event, they encourage you to compost your pumpkins with your local composting options.
