Get Involved in Astoria!

We’ve had a few upsetting stories yesterday – so today we’re thinking about ways in which Astoria is great. One of the best things about the neighborhood is the constantly willingness of all the residents to get involved, and to help one another out. Today, we’ve got two ways in which you can really help make a difference in the community – something we always strive to do.

Councilman Costa Constantinides recently posted online about two ways that Astorians can get involved:

“In order to help provide our students with the tools they need to excel in school, we are in the middle of hosting a school supply drive. We already donated some supplies at Urban Upbound‘s Employed-Astoria-Residents-Network event and more will be donated to education advocacy group Zone 126 and local schools. We’re still collecting supplies, which you can drop off at our District Office or at Queens Library at Steinway or Queens Library at Astoria from now until September 5.”

Another way you can help out is by donating to the local food banks!

“Food pantries across the city are facing empty shelves and a scarcity of resources. Please join the City Council in collecting non-perishable goods. This is a citywide crisis and we need to do everything in our power to help those in need. Bring your food donations to our district office from now until Friday (8/29). 31-09 Newtown Ave., Suite 209, Astoria, NY 11102.”
