Ginger: Juicing up Astoria

The masterful minds at Grand Cafe recently opened up Ginger, a juice and smoothie shop, located in one of Astoria’s best areas. The store is right behind Grand Cafe, and we recently paid a visit!

Ginger is a great addition to the ‘hood, because they’re offering up healthy choices that a lot of us have been craving. The plus is that, naturally, a lot of the juices are gluten-free and vegan/vegetarian friendly, but they’re yummy enough that the rest of us will enjoy them as well. Now, I don’t know if you’ve ever tried at home juicing before, but I have…and it generally doesn’t taste very good. But the juices here range from sweet to tart to sour, with a flavor on the spectrum for everyone.

They’ve got two types of juices: one made from juice extractor (this one loses pulp,) and one from a machine that pulverizes the fruit (this one includes everything). They’ve also got organic liquor cocktails, and COME ON, who can resist a drink when it sounds so good for you. They also have smoothies, for those of you like me who like your drinks to be a little bit thicker. You can pretty much think of any combination of fruit and they’ll whisk it together for you, or you can try one of their expansive menu.

They’ll also be offering salads, with tasty bases like kale, and amazing hand-made snacks, like these yummy parfaits.

The inside of Ginger is beautiful, and there’s a certain rustic, outdoorsy feel to it, which adds to the natural feeling. The prices are pretty decent,  $7 for 16 ounces and $9.50 for 24 ounces, which I would gladly pay instead of juicing at home. Seriously, those of you with a juicer, how annoying is cleaning it!? We would definitely recommend Ginger as a great summer spot – we can see ourselves cooling down with some fresh, cold-pressed juice on a hot day.

You can visit Ginger at 37-01 30th Avenue, Astoria, NY 11103.
