Astoria Bookshop: Julie Kliegman in Conversation with Bradford William Davis for Mind Game
Take some time this month to support a local author, and a local small business, at Astoria Bookshop’s event celebrating the release of Julie Kliegman’s debut book, Mind Game: An Inside Look at the Mental Health Playbook of Elite Athletes. Kliegman, an Astoria resident, is a journalist and editor who has worked as copy chief at Sports Illustrated, copy editor at The Ringer, and news fellow at BuzzFeed.
Her writing has been featured in several outlets including The Washington Post, Vulture, Vox, The Verge, Bustle, Washington Monthly, The Week, and more. Her book, which she will be discussing in conversation with award-winning cultural critic Bradford William Davis, is an expansive look into how even the world’s best athletes struggle with and overcome mental illness. This event is free to attend and should make for a great experience for book lovers and sports enthusiasts alike.

Oscar Watch Party at QED
Movie lovers looking for the best possible Academy Awards viewing experience should look no further than the Oscar watch party being hosted at QED. If you buy your ticket before March 10th, the admission price is only $13, and each ticket includes a small popcorn, a ballet, and a bingo card. Art for Families at the Noguchi Museum
This event, designed for families with children ages five to 11, is an incredible way for a family to learn and create together. Admission costs $24 per family, but is free for members. Coordinators at the museum will lead attendees in conversations in the gallery before bringing them into a studio for art-making activities. March’s event is focused on using clay to explore the visual and tactile textures of Isamu Noguchi’s sculptures. Parents who are seeking stimulating and creativity-encouraging experiences for their young children should mark this one down on their calendars.

Barnyard Egg Hunt
Kids and their grown-ups will enjoy the thrill of this springtime tradition as they collect colorful, prize-filled eggs in Queens Farm’s historic orchard and create treasured memories for years to come. Whiskers the Bunny will be ready for family photo ops and children can enjoy Bunny Hop dancing and outdoor games. Guests can explore a farm-wide scavenger hunt, egg-cellent local food vendors, a visit with the farm animals, and a hayride to top off the day. Tickets: $15

MOMi’s Auriea Harvey Exhibition
Running until July 7th of this year, My Veins Are the Wires, My Body Is Your Keyboard, is an exhibition featuring over 40 of Auriea Harvey’s groundbreaking works from her nearly four-decade long career. Harvey is a net-artist and sculptor who creates art centered around technology, which often explores how the ever-growing presence of it in our culture has changed the way human beings connect and interact. According to the museum, this is the first major survey of her career. It is a tremendous and culturally rich opportunity to reflect on some of the things that, for better or worse, have become so ubiquitous in our culture.
