Astoria, NY — The independent retailers of Astoria are proud to announce the 10th Annual Fall Retail Crawl, organized by Shop Small Astoria, a collective of 32 local businesses dedicated to supporting and promoting small, independent shops in the neighborhood.

The Fall Retail Crawl will take place from Friday, November 29 through Wednesday, December 4, coinciding with Small Business Saturday on November 30, the national shopping holiday created to highlight the importance of small businesses in local communities. This year, supporting small businesses is more crucial than ever as consumers are projected to spend 40% less than last year, due to inflationary pressures and rising costs.

How the Fall Crawl Works:
• Dates: Friday, 11/29 to Wednesday, 12/4
• How to Participate: Customers shop at 10 participating stores during the event dates and get their passports stamped with each purchase. Completed passports must be returned to The Brass Owl by Friday, 12/8.
• Prizes: Participants who complete 10 stamps receive a free limited-edition Astoria tote bag. Additionally, five lucky winners will be randomly selected for a grand prize package of their choice, featuring items and gift cards from local favorites and tickets to Death Becomes Her and A Wonderful World.

The History Behind Small Business Saturday
Fifteen years ago, American Express launched Small Business Saturday as an alternative to Black Friday, encouraging shoppers to support local, brick-and-mortar businesses instead of big-box stores or online retailers. For every dollar spent at a small business in the U.S., approximately 67 cents stays in the local community.

A Message from Shop Small Astoria’s Founder
Nicole Panettieri, owner of The Brass Owl and The Tiny Owl, as well as a Small Business adjunct professor at the Fashion Institute of Technology, founded Shop Small Astoria in 2015. “When we started, there were just 11 stores participating,” says Panettieri. “Today, we’ve grown to 32—a testament to the strength of our community and the love people have for supporting small businesses. This crawl is not only a celebration of that love but also a vital way to boost our local economy.”

The Fall Retail Crawl is the perfect way to kick off the holiday shopping season while giving back to the neighborhood that makes Astoria unique.
