Dec. 22, Literary Thursdays: Sinakable, 6 pm. Daniel Stone discusses Sinkable: Obsession, the Deep Sea, and the Shipwreck of the Titanic. With colorful characters and fascinating science, this book explores what happened after the famous luxury liner sank. The online event is part of Queens Public Library’s Literary Thursdays program.
Dec. 22, Jim Henson Exhibition Guided Tours, Dec. 31. A museum educator leads a family-oriented tour that includes stops at interactive stations. Dec. 22, Meet the Playwright Presents: Queens Girl in the World, 8 pm. Caleen Sinnette Jennings, a proud graduate of PS 143-Louis Armstrong, has written Queens Girl in the World, a play about girl who grows up in East Elmhurst in the 1960s. She makes sense of her predominantly African-American neighborhood and mostly white Manhattan school during the tumultuous Civil Rights Era. Jamaica Center for Arts & Learning, 161-04 Jamaica Ave.
Dec. 23, Illuminate the Farm: Bonus, Jan. 1, 2023. Extended hours (5 pm to 9 pm) for this dazzling display of lights and illuminated Chinese lanterns by artisans with decades of dedication to their craft. Dec. 23. The Shop Around the Corner, Dec. 24. Ernst Lubitsch’s 1940 Christmas classic is about combative colleagues (Margaret Sullavan and James Stewart) who each find unexpected solace in a pen pal who is closer than either suspects. Dec. 24, The Muppet Christmas Carol: 30th Anniversary Screening, 12:30 pm. Watch a 1992 version of a time-honored Charles Dickens classic with Muppet characters. Gonzo is Dickens, while Kermit is Bob Cratchit and Fozzie Bear is Fozziwig. A human actor, Michael Caine, plays Ebenezer Scrooge.
