Where to Spend St. Patrick’s Day in the Neighborhood

The Luck of the Irish!

One of the most festive days of the year is here: St. Patrick’s Day! And there’s no shortage of fantastic bars and restaurants in the neighborhood to celebrate on March 17th. Whether you want to sip on a green drink in honor of the holiday, nosh on authentic Irish cuisine like corned beef and cabbage or listen to live Irish music (or maybe even do all three!), we’ve got you covered. Here’s where to spend St. Paddy’s Day in Astoria, Long Island City and Sunnyside this year.

Trestle

Get into the St. Paddy’s Day spirit at Trestle—it’s their favorite day of the year! They’ll be serving up their green frosé (a holiday twist on their signature frosé), as well as traditional Irish fare like corned beef and cabbage. They also have a variety of other yummy comfort foods on their regular menu, like shepherd’s pie and chicken pot pie, to warm you right up. Stick around to hear a bagpipe performance as well.

The Wolfhound

You don’t want to miss the exciting lineup of events happening at The Wolfhound throughout St. Paddy’s Day week, from March 16th-March 20th. Some highlights: Stop by on St. Paddy’s Day proper to enjoy generous pours of everyone’s favorite Irish beer, Guinness, while listening to a killer Irish playlist. On Friday, March 18th, swing by to hear Irish folk band The Pilgrims of Deep Run play Irish pub songs and traditional Irish songs at 10 pm. On Saturday March 19th and Sunday March 20th, dine on a full Irish breakfast while listening to live traditional Irish music (brunch starts at noon, with music from 2-5 pm). There are many more St. Paddy’s events planned, so be sure to check out The Wolfhound’s social media to stay-up-to-date!

Maggie Mae’s

Is there any drink synonymous with St. Paddy’s Day quite like the shamrock shake? Head to Maggie Mae’s in Sunnyside to imbibe an adult version of the drink on St. Patrick’s Day. Yep, they’ll be serving up boozy shamrock shakes as well as frozen Irish coffees. If you’re feeling really adventurous, order both to celebrate!

Bantry Bay Publick House

Bantry Bay Publick House offers delicious Irish cuisine year-round. Nosh on favorites like Guinness-battered fish and chips, Irish stew and shepherd’s pie while sipping on a Guinness or other beer of your choice. You can also expect to hear the County Cork Pipe and Drums, a local bagpipe marching band, play on St. Paddy’s Day.

Ida’s Nearabout

This upscale hangout in Sunnyside is the perfect place to ring in St. Patrick’s Day. Look for food and drink specials, including items like green beer and corned beef and cabbage. You can, of course, also order off the regular menu, which is full of elevated bar food. Try the cast iron mac ‘n cheese and homemade mozzarella sticks and pair them with a pint of classic Guinness or hot Irish coffee. No matter what you order, you’re in for a good time!

We couldn’t conclude this list without mentioning Cronin & Phelan’s, Astoria’s longest standing traditional Irish pub (the wooden bar dates back to 1902!). Naturally, they take St. Paddy’s Day seriously! Come hungry so you can feast on Irish grub like bangers and mash, shepherd’s pie and corned beef and cabbage, seen here, and pair it with your choice of beer for an Irish-themed celebration that can’t be beat.
