20 years since the theatrical release of the award-winning film Astoria
It’s been 20 years since the theatrical release of the award-winning film Astoria directed and produced by longtime Astoria residents Nick Efteriades and Athena Efter. Astoria is a love letter to the neighborhood, capturing a slice of life in a Greek-American family – their struggles, their hopes, their dreams – while expressing the vibrant corners and colorful characters of a once predominantly Greek enclave often referred to as “Little Athens”.
Within every culture there is a story to be told. Astoria is a film about the neighborhood, filmed in the neighborhood. Times have changed, and in an almost prophetic vision of what the neighborhood would become, the spirit of old Astoria” is preserved in a cinematic ode to the people and places that once made Astoria a thriving center of Greek life.
The NY Times referred to it as a “charming” tale with a “warm glow.” If you missed it at the theater back then, here’s your chance to see it now for one weekend only through this exclusive GMA screening.
Enjoy!
