Astoria Shops Unite for 1st Online “Small Business Saturday” Retail Crawl

Friday 11/27-Sunday 11/29

The independent retailers of Astoria are excited to announce the 1st Shop Small Astoria Small Business Saturday Online Retail Crawl.
Ten years ago, American Express sponsored the first Small Business Saturday, a shopping holiday as a response to Black Friday. Falling on the Saturday after Thanksgiving—this year that’s November 27—Small Business Saturday encourages and incentivizes people to get out of the malls and instead out into the brick-and-mortar businesses that proudly serve local communities. For every dollar spent at a small business in the U.S., approximately 67 cents stays in the local community!
Nicole Panettieri, owner of one of the participating stores The Brass Owl, is the organizer of the collective Astoria retailers group, Shop Small Astoria. “I began Shop Small Astoria in 2015 to unite the local boutiques in the neighborhood and promote the amazing shopping opportunities we have here,” says Panettieri.
With all of us adjusting to the new normal, so will our event. In the past 5 years, we have had an in-person retail crawl with a growing number of stores. While many of these brick-and-mortar stores will be open and need support, for the safety of our community we could not promote an event that draws large crowds indoors. We pivoted and are rolling out the 1st online retail crawl! There are 10 retail stores participating that all have an eCommerce website. We are inviting our customers to complete the retail crawl this year all through online shopping keeping everyone safe while supporting the local businesses they love.
Bonus Gift for Shopping Small:
      • Customers that shop at 5 out of 10 stores will receive a free tote (photo attached).
      • To claim their tote, customers must send screenshots of completed online orders to [email protected]
