Two Astoria bar/restaurants have had their liquor licenses suspended by New York State: Brik Astoria (32-16 Steinway St.) and M.I.A. (27-35 21st St.) saw their liquor licenses revoked for violating COVID-19 guidelines.
The decision came following a backlash on social media of videos of hundreds of partygoers not social distancing or wearing masks at either establishment.
Governor Andrew Cuomo responded to the scenes on Twitter, where he wrote: “Let’s be clear. Outdoor dining is now permitted statewide. Outside drinking is not. The state will suspend liquor licenses for businesses in violation of health orders. Local governments must also enforce these rules. We need compliance to stop the spread and keep New Yorkers safe”.
