Euro Market Open Again

It seems that Euro Market is back. The much loved Astoria shop recently closed after the State Department of Taxation and Finance seized it for failure to pay more than $200,000 in back taxes.

The market was reopened on Friday last week according to owner Panayiotis Menikou.

There seemed to also be a GoFund project on the way to raise the funds, however according to the owner, he was no aware of the project nor wished it, saying that he wasn’t looking for hand outs.

However most have had positive feedback, stating that they look to the Market for all their produce and especially imported Beer needs.

The reasons given by Menikou for the tax issues was that he was not aware of which items were taxable and which weren’t, stating that “we’re working with authorities to fix the problem.”

The market, located at 30-42 31st St. near 30th Avenue is once again trading as it did since 2004, with items from Greece, Croatia and Serbia to name a few.
