Coming Soon: Stix

Let’s acknowledge that almost any food can be improved by putting it on a stick. Seriously – caramel apple? Throw it on a stick. Hot dog? Dip it in some batter, throw it on a stick – boom, corn dog. Finger foods? Make them stick foods. We don’t even need to mention the beauty that is kebabs.

Stathis Antonakopoulos loved food on sticks so much, he decided to open a restaurant that featured lots of skewered options – appropriately named Stix. When their original location in Manhattan absolutely flourished, Stathis realized he needed to open more locations – and where better than Astoria?

“Astoria is my roots. Astoria is my original home,” he told us. “When I was just 11 years old, I moved here from Greece to study, and I lived and grew up in Astoria for more than a decade.” He tells us that growing up as a teenager, he consistently worked in restaurants and kitchens in Astoria, and knew that it was exactly what he wanted to do. He wanted to open a restaurant that served great food – approachable, comfortable, high quality food.

One of the menu items at Stix – meatballs on a stick

“I always wanted to come back to Astoria, and when a space opened up, I jumped on the chance.” And so Stix Astoria began to build, along with two more Manhattan locations. The locations will build upon the success of the original, offering the amazing foods that keep customers coming back.

Stix’s signature items are the Stixballs – which are meatball sized offerings skewered on sticks. Our absolute favorite were the Quinoa and Fish Balls, but they’ve also got zucchini, meat, and – get this – mac and cheese balls. Five year old me is salivating. They’ll also have lots of not-so-sticky offerings, like salads and soups, as well as dinner entrees that include chicken and lamb chops. But we advise getting something unique – how many people can say they’ve had pancakes on a stick?

Stix is aiming for a mid-September opening – we’ll give you an exact date as the day gets closer! And of course, we’ll have a giftcard to give away, so keep your eyes peeled!
