A new way to get involved!
If you don’t already know about it, Kiwanis is a global organization dedicated to servitude, volunteering, and helping communities, as well as getting younger generations involved in leadership and civic duties. There’s sub-organizations for every school level, such as Key Club for high school, and Circle K for college.
The new Kiwanis, Donna tells us, will continue to uphold Kiwanis’ values of servitude and civic duty. The aim of this club, though, will be to fulfill what members want to do. “The direction we head in is up to the members. They’ll be able to decide what organization we help, what causes we raise money for, and what kind of impact they want to have.”
Some events they’ll be having are holiday fundraisers, food drives, and clothing dries for organizations such as Hour Children – which is a local not-for-profit run by Sister Tessa, which focuses on helping incarcerated mothers getting re-acclimated to society, get back on their feet, and most of all, helping their children.
If Kiwanis sounds like something you’d like to be a part of, or you want to help out the local community, the new club is having a happy hour mixer this Wednesday! The event will be at Cronin and Phelan’s on Broadway, and the entrance fee is $10. The funds raised will go towards supporting our troops. It’s going to be great!
