You Deserve Better: The Astoria Dental Team Everyone’s Talking About
As husband-and-wife owners, Yannis Koroneos and Stephanie Alvarez figured out the name for their practice pretty quickly. “Even before us, it was a dentist’s office. It was all set up, and we went in and modernized everything. And it’s not your typical office. It’s not a storefront and it’s not on the main road. We took it over looking to serve the community of Astoria. And that’s why we named it New York Legacy.”

Dr. Koroneos is a local Astorian who met Dr. Alvarez while they were both attending Tufts. “I’m Greek American and I very much identify that way. I’m fluent in Greek. My residency was at Bellevue. [Dr. Alvarez] is from Florida. She’s fluent in Spanish. We wanted to see where we could start a practice. We realized the people we were treating were the people we knew. We wanted a neighborhood type office with stronger care.”
This team of doctors believes in the best care with a personal touch. “I’ve seen a lot of corporate style offices, and a lot of these places are run by private equity groups who don’t care as much about the patient experience.”

The NY Legacy experience revolves around the idea of person-centered care. Dr. Koroneos and Dr. Alvarez acknowledged that many people struggle with anxiety about their dental health and that sometimes that discomfort stems from your wallet too. “People have some traumas when they come from a dentist. You always hear a story. Some guy overcharged me. Our goal with the office is to be transparent and fair. There’s a trend where people don’t know what’s going on in their mouth. I want you to understand everything here in detail.”

Dr. Koroneos elaborated, “It’s a doctor owned practice. You’re not going to call and get a call center.” He went on, “Healthcare is confusing. We’re just trying to go back to the basics. I think people miss that environment.”

As for the services provided, Dr. Koroneos explained that any number of procedures are available, “The thing we really excel at is smile makeovers and helping you gain an understanding of your dental health. There are a lot of people out there that aren’t happy with their smile. Some people just need to come in every six months for a checkup and cleaning. And some people need full reconstructive surgery and anything in between.”

Dr. Koroneos explained that the person-centered approach keeps people coming back to the office. “We like teeth, but we really like people.”
