Nov. 18, STEM Career Night, 5 pm. Meet and network with people who work in the aviation industry, especially the fields of flight avionics, mechanical engineering, and software design. New York Hall of Science, 47-01 111th St., Flushing Meadows Corona Park.
Nov. 18, Blarney Star Trad Series, 7 pm. A night of tremendous Irish folk music with harmonies and deft instrumental arrangements. New York Irish Center, 10-40 Jackson Ave., Long Island City.
Nov. 19, Citi Field Spartan Race, 7:30 am. A five kilometer, 20-obstacle trek inside the stadium. Participants run up the bleachers and climb over walls. Citi Field, 41 Seaver Way, Flushing.
Nov. 19, Closing of The G.O.A.T. Monument, 3 pm. The G.O.A.T. Monument has been greeting visitors to Flushing Meadows Corona Park for about a year. The eight-foot LL COOL J statue includes a bronze bust atop a steel-and-resin radio that plays his music powered by a solar power system. The closing features hip-hop shows, an artist talk, and a celebration of LL’s music. David Dinkins Circle near the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
Nov. 19, Home for the Holidays, Nov. 25. Jodie Foster directs this 1995 family drama which stars Holly Hunter, Robert Downey Jr., and Anne Bancroft. Hunter plays Claudia, who returns home to suburban Baltimore for Thanksgiving after losing her Chicago museum job. She contends with aging parents, a hyperactive brother, and a conservative, bigoted sister. Shows are on Nov. 19 at 1 pm and Nov. 25 at 3 pm. Nov. 19, NY Son Jarocho Festival, 1 pm. A full day of performances concludes a week-long celebration of Son Jarocho, the music, dance, and culture of Veracruz, Mexico. Caña Dulce Caña Brava is the headliner. Flushing Town Hall, 137-35 Northern Blvd.
Nov. 19, 18th Century Tavern Nights, 8 pm. The hosts use an open hearth and 18th century recipes to prepare a dinner to be enjoyed with period tableware and candles. Nov. 19, Forest Bathing, 1:30 pm. Certified guide Linda Lombardo leads a meditative forest bathing walk as per the Japanese Shinrin-Yoku tradition.
