New Kids on the Block

Going into the fall, the October restaurant forecast looks particularly promising with plenty of new, cozy food options to hold us over as we approach the colder months of the year. From seafood destinations to unorthodox tacos, let’s give a big welcome to these outstanding new restaurant arrivals, please!

BK Lobster

Did the stars align and hear our deepest wishes? We certainly think so! Astorian’s love their seafood, and with a new BK Lobster opening on Astoria Boulevard, our prayers have been answered! While summer may be over, you can still get your lobster fix, without a trip to Maine, in one tasty, delicious sandwich. Customers can choose between a classic roll made with mayo or opt for a traditional roll served in a decadent warm butter sauce. In addition, the menu also features other exciting dishes, such as fried lobster, lobster mac, and even lobster pasta! Plus, an excellent selection for vegans as well. We can’t wait for this to become our new comfort food spot!

Taco Tumba

As the name suggests, Taco Tumba (or grave taco) takes the art of taco making very seriously—and rightly so. The restaurant has a fantastic selection of unique tacos, priding themselves on gourmet flavors such as duck confit and sautéed fresh lobster. However, one of their all-time favorite menu items is not a taco, but their Pulpo al Pastor (a grilled octopus beautifully served with some toasted pepita mole sauce and charred pineapple salsa). Their drinks are made with fresh, local ingredients and were uniquely crafted to complement their distinctive dishes. It’s upscale, fabulous, and has a cool and unique speakeasy vibe to it. Heart of Gold

They’re not the newest on the block, since they already opened last summer, but we haven’t given them a proper shout-out—until now. This is a super laid-back bar with an unpretentious, large backyard and a very lenient policy of “bring your own food” as long as you order a couple of drinks to go with it! They are known for their excellent entertainment schedule (bingo, trivia, comedy- you name it) and an exciting, independent playlist to go along with it. They offer a small but rotating food menu, including a delightful truffle cheddar pretzel that pairs perfectly with a nice cold beer. For a vegan option, try the Vegan Hero Sandwich, when available, paired with their signature beer called “Softly Spoken Magic Spells” from Singlecut Beersmith. Fun fact: All their beers are locally sourced from the New York area. Cheers!

Gone Wrong

This up-and-coming restaurant is brand new to the scene, and while we’re still getting all the info, it looks promising! Open from Thursday to Sunday until 4 am, Gone Wrong’s new lounge has quickly become our new go-to spot for late-night outings! Visitors can expect a chill, laid-back environment with fun music and pizza on the menu. And let’s be honest, who doesn’t love pizza?
