The 13 Best Places to Watch the World Cup in Astoria

It happens like clockwork. Every four years, a month-long stretch arrives when our neighborhood looks, feels, and sounds a bit different. Cheerful roars emanate from packed bars, flags from around the world hang above local businesses and outside apartment windows, and people proudly walk the streets donning jerseys, scarves, and hats that represent their home nations. The cause of all this cultural pride and excitement, of course, is the FIFA World Cup.

Though the world’s greatest sporting event electrifies all of New York City each time it comes around, the temporary frenzy is especially intense in Queens. Nicknamed The World’s Borough for a reason and home to immigrants from over 120 different countries, it is one of the most diverse areas on the planet. That spirit is especially evident in Astoria, where roughly 37% of residents are foreign-born, helping shape a neighborhood identity that is influenced by cultures from across the globe. And those cultures are never collectively celebrated in Astoria’s bars, pubs, and restaurants more fervently than during the World Cup.

With the United States serving as one of the host nations this year, and matches being played just across the Hudson in East Rutherford, the 2026 tournament promises to bring an even bigger buzz to the neighborhood than usual. Our typically quaint streets will grow louder, amplified by cheers that follow big goals and chants that can be heard from blocks away after dramatic victories.

Whether you’re supporting the U.S., Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Egypt, Senegal, Ecuador, or any other nation, Astoria will be one of the premier places in the city to experience the tournament this summer. Our curated guide of where to watch all the games will have you feeling fully prepared by the time things start on June 11. From watch parties with raucous crowds to delicious food deals and budget-friendly drink specials, these local spots are perfect for taking in all the action before spilling out onto Steinway, Ditmars, or 30th Avenue to continue the celebration alongside fellow fans and members of the community long after the final whistle.

With 55+ inch TVs all over the place, every game will be on display, with featured games being shown on their massive outdoor screen with the sound on. Be sure to arrive early, as Pig Beach tends to fill up hours before big games kick off, despite its ample amount of space.
