Astoria’s ever-evolving food scene continues to thrive with new businesses opening that bring diverse flavors and creative concepts to the neighborhood. Whether you’re in the mood for a cozy brunch, fried chicken, refined Japanese dining, or a fusion of Latin and Japanese flavors, there’s something for everyone this month. Check out these four new eateries making waves in the local Astoria dining scene!
BBD LIC

Let’s face it, brunch is delicious any time of the year. The newly opened BBD LIC is the neighborhood’s newest eatery serving up creative brunch dishes and cocktails. Customers can expect classic brunch items, such as chicken and waffles, omeletes, shrimp and grits, and more. However, this new brunch spot’s breakfast sandwiches are where the magic really happens. Each of the sandwiches are served with your choice of fries or a side salad, and at your first visit to BBD LIC, highly recommended is the short rib, egg and cheese sandwich; the perfect combination of sweet from the sautéed onions and savory from the short rib and cheddar cheese eggs. Couple your meal with BBD’s cocktails and you’re ready to take on the day!

Honzen

Perfectly tucked away on 31st Avenue, Honzen is the ideal location to indulge in quality Japanese dining. The newest eatery places emphasis a formal Japanese style of eating in which dishes are selected and served in a specific manner, dating back to the 1300s in Japan. Honzen’s menu consists of a set of carefully curated dishes to create the ideal meal. Patrons can expect menu items ranging from A5 Wagyu to miso cod, and even blue mackerel amongst others. Tacoshi

Tacoshi is Astoria’s newest fusion concept, combining bold Japanese and Latin-American flavors. If you’ve ever wondered how tacos and sushi would blend, then Tacoshi is certainly the place to try. Each dish is a taste of two very different cuisines that compliment each other wonderfully, and this is shown off in any of Tacoshi’s specialty menu items, such as the Kakikama roll. Tacoshi’s Kakikama roll is prepared with sweet plantains, shrimp tempura, and fried queso, and absolutely delicious. Other standouts include Tachoshi’s calamari, fried rice, and any of their creative cocktails to pair with your meal. When you’re at Tacoshi, definitely expect a fun night out with some great bites and drinks.
