Charlie’s is Astoria’s Hidden Gem for Cocktails & Private Events
One of the best spots in town is also one of the smallest. Charlie’s is a bar and private event space that’s ideal for your next intimate gathering. This tiny spot is cozy, comfortable, and classic in all the right ways.

An offshoot of the neighborhood staple pub The Bonnie, Charlie’s boasts top-notch cocktails and cold brews made with only the best locally sourced ingredients. Owner Ruairi Curtin explained the inspiration for Charlie’s came with a bit of timing, “The space was continually changing from one business to another, but we loved its feel with a ‘20s vibe. When it became available two years ago, we jumped on the opportunity to create a tiny, cozy, old-world charm bar.”

Curtin explained that the bar skews towards martinis and classic cocktails. However, there are several signature drinks that are absolutely worth your time, “The Sgt. Pepper Martini, featuring garlic and pepper-infused vodka with pickle juice and a feta-stuffed peppadew garnish, is a standout. Another favorite is the ‘Spirit of St. Louis,’ our modern twist on a classic whiskey sour. For those who prefer beer, we offer a pint of Guinness or a $6 ice-cold mug of Bitburger.”

Charlie’s is open Fridays and Saturdays from 6pm “until late,” Curtin said. But Charlie’s also thrives as an event space. In the background, a live DJ spins vinyl records for the guests, or every now and then, a bartender gets a few of their favorite songs in. At just 400 square feet, Charlie’s is quite possibly the smallest bar in town.

Charlie’s will truly shine as a private space for your next party, gathering, or event. And the connection Charlie’s has to The Bonnie gives the pub the ability to provide top tier beverages, ingredients, and mixes. “We’re always available for private events any night of the week.”

“We like to think of it as The Bonnie’s little brother. Every detail is important, from the friendly, talented staff to the stunning interiors. We’ve put a lot of work and thought into the space and are very proud of what we’ve created. We have a longstanding love for Astoria,” Curtin explained. “We fell in love with the space and knew we could deliver a beautiful, tiny, charming bar that spins vinyl and shakes cocktails into the late hours. We think we’ve delivered, and we’re excited for what’s ahead.”
