What’s New in Astoria: Discover Fresh Eateries This September
September is here and a new season is just around the corner. That doesn’t mean you have to let the end of summer get you down: there’s so much that’s new to enjoy in the neighborhood! Here are Give Me Astoria’s picks for what to check out this September.
7th Street Burger
Picture this: it’s the end of a long night out and you’re craving a midnight snack. What better way to satiate your appetite than with a juicy, freshly stacked burger? Fortunately, 7th Street Burger has opened its first Astoria location, right on 30th Avenue. Known around Manhattan as one of the best burgers throughout the city, 7th Street Burger serves up burgers sure to please. Besides your standard burgers and cheeseburgers, which can also be served as doubles, 7th Street Burger also presents customers with Impossible burger choices. To complete your meal, the burger franchise offers its take on French fries: both plain and loaded are available with either beef or Impossible plant-based meat as well.

Ambrosia Garden
Just because it’s September doesn’t mean the summer vibes have to end, and a great way to continue summer is by enjoying some delicious Greek food. Priding itself on serving rustic style, authentic Greek cuisine, Ambrosia Garden is Astoria’s newest Greek eatery located on 23rd Ave. To start, the decor is truly like no other in the neighborhood, and truly transports you to a garden in the Mediterranean. As for the food, you can’t go wrong with the classics, however Ambrosia Garden’s specialty dishes are the true stars. Highly recommended is the Youvetsi, which consists of slow-cooked beef served with orzo pasta, and topped with tomato sauce and grated Graviera cheese. Other standout menu items include the Gavros Marinatos, otherwise known as grilled anchovies marinated in citrus and EVOO, as well as the traditional Cretan-style Dakos salad.

Bread of Life
Bread of Life, also known as Pão da Vida, is a Brazilian-style bakery/cafe with locations throughout New Jersey. Now open in Astoria, this bakery is known for its authentic pastries such as pastel grande, empadas, and pao frances. However, this eatery is serving a whole lot more than pastries, and patrons can expect a wide-encompassing menu complete with breakfast and all-day items. Besides the more traditional delicacies, must-try items include the misto quente breakfast, which is the Brazilian take on the classic ham and cheese sandwich. Or, for something a bit more savory, give the coxinha catupiry a try. If you are unfamiliar, coxinha catupiry is fried dough filled with potato, spices, and chicken. Whether you’re in search of savory or sweet, you surely can’t go wrong with any of the dishes at Bread of Life.

Upon entering, you feel like transported to Thailand, all while staying right in Astoria. Dishes include more standard items ranging from Pad Thai, fried papaya salad and pad see ew. But, a must-try on your first visit has to be Khao Soi Gai. This soup, with roots from Northern Thailand, is made with noodles, spices, shrimp paste, and a coconut milk curry as its base. Additional standout menu items include the Khao Hor Bai Bua Siam, lotus leaf wraps filled with rice, jumbo shrimp, scallops, sweet pork sausage, egg, shiitake mushrooms, and cilantro.
