It is hard to say that our days are predictable at the Give Me Astoria HQ, we have interviewed the best of the best that Astoria has to offer, no one or industry is ever off limits. This week we had a transcendent experience when local street magician, Julian Mejia stopped by our creative space and introduced us to his craft and performed for us. We are still asking ourselves, “How did he do that?”

Give Me Astoria:
What drawn you to magic?

Julian:
It was completely unwarranted, I had to give a presentation for a speech class in college and I thought it would be cool and different if I performed for the class. Prior to the performance, I was extremely nervous and did not like public speaking. Needless to say, the performance went well and I’ve been performing magic ever since.

GMA:
What’s a kept secret that every magician has?

Julian:
Every magician breaks the magician’s code at least once—never do the same trick twice and never reveal how a trick is done.

GMA:
What is your most difficult magic trick?

Julian:
That would have to be mentalism, getting into the mind of others.

GMA:
Who would win in a magic-off, Harry Houdini or David Blaine?

Julian:
Blaine

GMA:
Do you have a stage name?

Julian:
No, I believe that a magician's work should speak for itself.

GMA:
What are your long term goals as a magician?

Julian:
At the moment, I’m just doing this for fun, it’s a hobby and I’m open to all possibilities. 

GMA:
What are three misconceptions some may have about magic/magicians?

Julian:
1- Magicians are liars.
2- Magicians are thieves. 
 3- Magicians worship the devil.

GMA:
What would be your ultimate trick if there were no limitations? 

Julian:
Teleportation, because I would love to visit my family in Colombia.

GMA:

Julian:
If a magician asks you to see a trick, enjoy the trick for what it is rather than trying to find out how the trick is done.
