It looks like the wait is over, and after months of suspense, the Bareburger owners have finally revealed what they’re going to be doing with the old Athens Cafe space.

 

The large corner restaurant will now be a Southern biscuit restaurant, something we haven’t seen too much of in Astoria. The restaurant, called Burnside Biscuits, will have classics Southern offerings, like fried chicken and and biscuit sandwiches, as reported by We Heart Astoria.

 

 

We’re excited to see the the Bareburger owners are expanding into a different niche – there’s definitely enough burger spots strewn throughout the neighborhood, and Southern cooking is less common, found in places like Sugarfreak or Queens Comfort.

 

They’re planning for a June opening, so it looks like we’ll have all summer to get to know the new biscuit joint!
