The Astor Room’s new Winter menu offers delicious food fit for the season.

The changes that Chef Nathaniel “Natty” Felder has made to the menu for winter are impressive.

He has added delicious potato pancakes to the Snack Menu served with the traditional apple sauce, sour cream and cranberry sauce which gives it the right amount of sweetness.

It’s not winter without the soups and a must try is the Carrot and Ginger soup with brown buttered cream and sage, your taste buds will go wind, full of flavor the ginger in this soup gives it a nice little kick. Fresh and warming just right for this time of year.

As for the starters I went with the Flatbread of the week, which is well, depends on the chef’s mood, this week it was the mozzarella, sausage, and basil and tomato sauce. Fresh ingredients, thin Napolitano style dough and the cheese: sauce ration is right on point, I applaud them for it.

The ever- popular sides list has an addition with the sweet potato puree, think comfort food which also makes a great pairing with the skirt steak or bone prime filet Mignon. It also goes down well as a starter dish.

Let’s talk cocktails for a sec. The drink list is full of tasty classics and signature cocktails, the new edition to the list is Murder My Sweet and yes it’s named after the classic movie. This is the perfect cocktail for a cold winters night or day. Mixed with old overhold rye, fresh lime juice, jalapeno syrup, fresh mint, fever tree ginger beer float; its sweet, its light but wait for it 2-3 seconds after your first sip and yep you feel the kicker.

Natty’s new accompaniments for several of the entrées – both old favorites and new offerings – are definitely worth a mention. The new additions are The Berkshire pork chop with braised cabbage, apples and onions, spiked apple honey sauce and the Astor Cioppino with cod, mussels, clams, shrimp, and chorizo with tomatoes, potatoes, ginger and carrots. Cooked just right with a hint of a mild flavor the ginger and pepper gives. With a glass of the malbec Belasco it’s the most complimentary match for succulent dinning.

The salad list still features the sought-after kale and wedge salads. However if you crave a homemade indulgence, order the Lamb Burger a classic for the meat lovers. Served with portobello cap, mustard aioli, coleslaw and fresh fries.

Dessert menu covers the classics but if you want something really impressive try the Chocolate Chip Bread Pudding, served with espresso gelato and maple syrup. The portion is very generous so you might need another to share with or maybe not.

Compliments to the Chef!

Having honed his craft in celebrated kitchens around the country, Chef Felder brings to the Astor Room a wealth of knowledge, experience and nostalgia-tempered innovation that’s deliciously reflected in his menu. The Winter Menu additions are hands down by far the most innovative flavors that capture the essence of the season.
