Let’s Rake Some Leaves!
Astoria Park Alliance, located in Astoria, is a volunteer organization established in 2006 to promote and provide greater and safer access to Astoria Park and its shoreline along western Queens. To better serve local and international visitors, the alliance works closely with the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation, Partnerships for Parks, Greenshores NYC, the 114th precinct, and numerous businesses and institutions. Its mission is to “beautify, enhance, and encourage greater community involvement within Astoria Park.”
LOOK AT ALL THE LEAVES
The leaf fest kicks off tomorrow and runs for three Saturdays – until the 22nd. Volunteers will be raking leaves to be made into compost. Now – that doesn’t sound too appealing, but we swear it’ll be fun. You get to get outside before it gets too cold, you get a good workout (hello? bicep workout anyone?), and you get to meet other people who care about their neighborhood – and let’s be real, those are some awesome people.
Meet up is at the Field House near the Astoria Park track. Astoria Park Alliance will provide gloves, tools, and training. Please come in closed-toe shoes, ready to work outdoors!
