We all love Bareburger, and it’s extra cool that the modern burger joint got its start right here in Astoria! We got to ask the CEO Euripides Pelekanos some questions, and here’s what he had to say!

What’s your favorite burger meat?

Bison. It’s a sweeter, leaner beef.

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever eaten?

This probably won’t sound very weird to most people, but I remember eating “live” squid and I thought I was in an Indiana Jones movie.

What do you think keeps people coming back to Bareburger?

I think good food is part of it, but not the biggest part. I pride myself on the experience that each guest is given. I make it a point to bring people on board who want our customers to have a really great time in our restaurants. Not just good service, but laughter and impressions that will stay with our guests after they leave the restaurant. We aim to share really good human interaction, tied all together with great food.

The first Bareburger opened in Astoria – why here? 

I grew up in Astoria.  It’s a personal thing… I wanted to give something to my neighborhood that brings people together and promotes authentic happiness. I wanted to give people another take on burgers, not your Greek uncle’s diner burger, haha.

What are your goals for the future of Bareburger? 

It is really important to me that as we grow, we do not become TOO corporate, or institute the cookie cutter restaurant chain mentality. I want each experience to remain personal and unique.  That’s going to be a challenge, because it sort of conflicts with making sure we have brand consistency.  But like I said, that’s where the staff comes in. Personal touches within the Bareburger model.

What is your absolute FAVORITE item on the menu?

Bison medium rare, dill pickles, raw red onion, special sauce, on a brioche bun.  Makes me feel like I am at a backyard bbq, relaxing with family and friends.
