Home for the (Socially Distant) Holidays: A Pandemic-Approved Agenda

The most wonderful time of the year is upon us, and that also signals the arrival of some of the most wonderful events of the year – right here in the neighborhood! With the Christmas music starting to play and the holiday lights going up, here are some of the best – and safest – attractions close to home that will guarantee a jolly old time.

Athens Square Christmas Tree Lighting

An exciting new festive display to see at Athens Square Park this year.

With local business owners and the non-profit Athens Square Inc. teaming up to deliver some holiday cheer. The tree is located right in front of the park’s signature big three pillars and measures in at a whopping 27 feet high and 15 feet wide! Stop by to see the beautiful lights and decorations anytime up until January 20th, 2021.

Please practice social distancing and mask-wearing at the park. Organizers say the extravagant display is meant to be a symbol of unity this holiday season.

Radial Park

Radial Park has been generating a ton of buzz since its initial show in September of this year- and for good cause.

The self-described Broadway at the drive-in venue features a unique experience of movie musical screenings alongside live performances, all done on the waterfront. Guests have the option of purchasing tickets for either a vehicle spot or a picnic bench. And now, Radial Park will be hosting The Christmas Show! every Friday and Saturday night up until December 19th. This holiday attraction will feature screenings of classic holiday films such as ElfIt’s a Wonderful Life, alongside live performances, festive decor, raffles, and much more!

Of course, safety protocols are taken seriously at Radial Park with temperature checks and social distance monitoring.

Macy’s Santaland (at Home)

Santa will be home for Christmas, but that doesn’t mean you and the kids can’t see good old Saint Nick this year.

In fact, you can meet up with him right from the comfort of your own home with Macy’s all-new Santaland At Home! To ensure the safety of families around New York City, Macy’s has developed a completely virtual experience to replace their world-famous annual Christmas event at Herald Square.

Simply head to their website to engage in a personalized tour of the real-life Santaland, complete with a meet-and-greet, and a selfie with Santa Claus himself!

Savanna Rooftop

Who said that outdoor dining was a summer thing? Well, Savanna Rooftop is proving that kind of conventional wisdom wrong with their outdoor “Sky Suites”, which is scheduled to be available throughout the winter.

These cozy little tents are completely see-through and allow customers to take in the unbelievable rooftop views of the Manhattan and Queens skylines. Indulge in a diverse menu of cocktails and food items. Reservations are available online for certain days of the week and come with a complimentary spiked hot cider to enjoy while you observe the winter scenery from your weather-proof suite. Perfect for that rare photogenic socially distant outing!
