Some Astoria Fun Coming Up!

We are all, no doubt, still recovering from the long Labor Day Weekend. The weather was just right for lots of fun with family and friends whether you stayed in the city or went for a drive.

But now the week is here and as such, work and all those little worries come sneaking back into light.

So we’ve come up with some fun things you can do this Friday and Saturday that may just help ease into next week a little better.

Here’s just a few things you can do in Astoria, without emptying your pocket.

Friday:

Start your Friday off with some literature at the the five-year anniversary of Boundless Tales. Readers include Jennifer Baker, Susana Case, Shakira Croce and Tim Fredrick.

Where: Queens Council on the Arts – 37-11 35th Ave., Astoria.

When: 6:30PM

Cost: FREE.

If you’ve had your fill of reading, then dancing will snap you back with Quiet Clubbing’s Beer Garden Party. That’s right, it’s all silent as you groove your way through three DJs spinning all different kinds of hits.

Where: Bohemian Hall & Beer Garden – 29-19 24th Ave., Astoria.

When: 10 p.m.,

Cost: $5.

Saturday:

Saturday’s looking pretty chill from where we’re standing, and there’s nothing as chill, or nostalgically fun, as watching Muppet-master Jim Henson: In Performance – a compilation of archival footage showing the gradual building of characters like Kermit the Frog and the rest of our muppet friends.

Where: Museum of the Moving Image – 36-01 35 Ave., Astoria.

When: 1 p.m.,

Cost: $12.

And finally, to top it all off, we head on over to the QED for some music and laugh combo at the Repeater Podcast. Have some fun while friends discuss favorite songs then musicians play them.

Where: QED Astoria (27-16 23rd Ave., Astoria),

When: 5 p.m.,

Cost: $5.
