Stray Cat Home To Be Demolished

A row of vacant buildings located on the corner of Hoyt Avenue South and 29th Street in Astoria are set to be demolished according to applications filed into the Department of Buildings by the owner.

The buildings have been home to a bunch of stray cats for many years now, who are regularly fed by locals who work or live around the area.

Scaffolding and plywood erected earlier in the month has confirmed the demolition plans, while at the same time making it difficult for people to feed the cats. One such plywood has the words 'Cat killer here' scrolled onto it.

Owner of Pets on the Run Zohar Saadi told DNAinfo that he thinks '...some people got upset' in regards to the message. He is one of the few that feed the cats daily, 'I don't know what's going to happen to these cats.'

The plans for the building are still under review by the Department of Buildings, and as yet demolition permits have not been issued, according to DNAinfo.
