Hundreds of Basements in Astoria Flooded
By sonia Posted: December 13, 2014
A water main break has left hundreds of basements in Astoria flooded – a horrible sight to behold in this week’s cold temperatures.
The break occurred at 23rd Street near 24th Drive, and occured some time around 5:30 am, when residents first started to see water gush into the streets.
It went on for near two hours, causing thousands of dollars worth of damage to both sidewalks and homes. The Red Cross, FDNY and DEP all came to asses and stop the water main break – but the damage has already been done. There’s no telling how much damage has been done – or how long it’ll take to repair.
