After more than 15 years on its Astoria corner, Athens Cafe has closed its doors.

 

Athens was one of the classic Greek spots in Astoria – offering up classics like Spanokopita, Greek Salad, Greek Frappes and more. There was no hint lately that the location would be closing so suddenly – seemingly boarded up overnight.

 

As of now, there’s no official word as to what’s going in the spot, at 32-01 30th Avenue, but murmurs are that Bareburger will be opening a new location. Seeing as there’s two in the area, we’re hoping this one is a little different. Fingers crossed for one thing though: No more fro-yo.
