Sugar Freak To Reopen Its Doors!

When news hit that much loved, and rightly so, Sugar Freak was closing, many Astorians were stricken with cuisine grief. But then something happened. A miracle on 30th Avenue took place when owner Michele Addeo and restaurateur James Paloumbis announced that the New Orleans themed restaurant formerly located on 36-18 30th Avenue will be taking over the location which once housed MexiBBQ on 37-11 30th Avenue.

Let all the freaks rejoice!

The restaurant announced their closure only this February but the light was still very much lit. Owner Michele Addeo and restaurateur James Paloumbis quickly partnered up, bringing us hope of enjoying some awesome mac and cheese in a new location.

There’s more space coming too. The new location is going to double the size of the old one. Chef Christian Fajardo will also have a much larger kitchen to work with, ensuring top quality along with the same uniquely Sugar Freak experience. For those of us who loved the ambiance and decor of the old place, fear not, all the furniture and vintage plates and tin ceiling will be moved to the new one.

Even more good news, the new location will also be introducing delivery, catering and even lunch services! We know where we’re ordering from…

With dishes like; Jambalaya, Po’Boys, Bananas foster french toast and Louisiana barbecue shrimp, the lines will be long. Some new items will also be gracing the menu, and our palates. Seafood boils, and a list of baked cakes and pies courtesy of Pastry Chef Michele Addeo. This includes the popular and mouth watering beignets, deep fried banana pudding and traditional dump cake.

In a press release, the owners said,

“All parties are looking forward to continuing to serve Sugar Freak’s loyal guests, and gathering some new freaks along the way.”

Well, on behalf of this sugar freak, we can’t wait!
