Astoria High School Ranked Among Top In New York City

Astoria is known for its people, culture, diversity and now, its high schools, as reported by the Queens Courier by way of data released by U.S. News & World Report, several Queens high schools have made the list of the top 50 high schools in New York City and a few are right here in Astoria.

Each school is evaluated on admissions processes, school enrollment size, graduation rate, average SAT score and a student college readiness index. Individually, these are incredible feats but our high schoolers went above and beyond to show that the future of New York will not only be inherently tough but brilliant as well. It’s the perfect combination.

From the top 50 list, 11 of the high schools are in Queens and 3 are on the top 10 list.

Astoria’s own the Baccalaureate School for Global Education (34-12 36th Ave.) placed sixth on the list with an average student SAT score of 1881 out of 2400, a college readiness index of 99 percent, and an astonishing graduation rate of 100 percent. Founded in September 2002, the Baccalaureate School for Global Education (BSGE) provides a world-class educational experience aligned with the frameworks and standards of the International Baccalaureate Program.

Number seven on the list is The Queens High School for the Sciences at York College located in Jamaica (94-50 159th St.) with about 100 students in each entering class, the average student SAT score is 1947/2400.

Coming in at number nine is the Townsend Harris High School (149-11 Melbourne Ave.) in Flushing. This school is small in capacity as it only has 1,143 students and only offers classes that are at honor-level or above.
