Fun On The Waterfront For Summer 2016

Warmer weather is promised to us and we have been patiently waiting, as evident as this week, we have had a patch of chill in the air and honestly, we’re over it. We want Summer, we want it now, and we are planning for it!

A great thing about Summer time in the city is that it allows us to break free and get out of our sometimes monotonous routine. A few things we almost automatically associate with Summer are water, outdoor activities, exercise, and our long lost friend the Sun. Starting this weekend and throughout the impending Summer months, we have a few outdoor activities that will be fun for all ages!

This Saturday, May 21, 2016, at 9:00 a.m. and every Saturday, until 6/30/2016 is the New York Road Runners Open Run at Astoria Park. The run is free and is open to all ages, experience levels, walkers, strollers, and dogs. Get out there with the family and furry ones and stretch those legs!

Next is the 2016 Waterfront Concert Series at Astoria Park – Great Lawn, the six concerts in the 2016 series will be spread out on Thursday evenings at 7:30 p.m. during the months of July and August. The first concert will be held on July 14th, and will feature The Devotions, a Doo-wop group and the final concert will be by Pop band, Bon Journey on August 18th. The full line-up, listed below, will also include Jazz, Country, A Tribute to Motown and Rock. Whatever you fancy, bring your dancing shoes because the rhythm definitely get cha!

And, finally, our next go-to Summer 2016 event is Movies On The Waterfront. A quintessential New York Summer would not be complete without outdoor movies. Perhaps it’s because of our cramped apartments or because we simply love doing things outdoors, whichever the reasoning, this is the perfect reason to get out and get a little fresh air. We have six movies slated for this year, ranging from Big Hero 6 to the ultimate Summer classic, Jaws. If you're looking for family fun, or to reminisce, or to get scared and never wanting to go to the beach again, they have a night for you. See below for the complete list and don't forget the popcorn!
